Frequently Asked Questions

How much does bridal makeup cost?

Because each wedding is so unique - the timeline, location, services requested, number of clients - it is difficult to accurately quote a price for bridal makeup without a consultation. But, this basic rule of thumb should help you with your planning: typically, wedding day makeup will be approximately 2% of your budget. When you include hair styling and other beauty prep - spray tanning, waxing, etc - you can expect bridal beauty to be approximately 5% of your overall wedding day costs.
Event Cosmetics offers prospective clients a no commitment consultation at which time you can discuss the particulars of your event to receive an accurate quote.

Does the make-up artist come to me or do I go to Event Cosmetics' studio?

Event Cosmetics offers both in studio and on-site makeup application. As a client, you decide which service works best for you.

Does Event Cosmetics offer hair styling?

Event Cosmetics specializes in cosmetics. EC artists do not perform both services. Event Cosmetics works closely with Da:Da Hair salon and frequently recommends them to their clients. If you would prefer another salon, EC has worked with most of the top stylists in Portland, so our artists can certainly recommend some alternatives.

How much is a consultation?

Initial consultations for the bride's wedding makeup are $50 (discounted from our regular full price $100). The fee is steeply discounted because we know the fastest and most effective method of determining if Event Cosmetics is right for you is to start working with us. If you require a 2nd consultation prior to your wedding day, the fee is $75. However, 2nd consultations are rarely necessary or requested. Event Cosmetics is happy to accommodate any other members of the bridal party that want a consultation but there is a charge for that service.

When is the best time to schedule my consultation?

Bridal shows in Portland normally happen in the first two months of the calendar year. Event Cosmetics' summer schedule fills up rather quickly thereafter so it is important to contact us early in the season to reserve your date. Ideally, it is much better if the basic theme, colors, and timeline are set before the consultation as these items can affect the application you want as well as the quote you receive. However, Event Cosmetic artists are flexible, very experienced, and can handle any adjustments.
Event Cosmetics will give you 3 days following your consultation to decide if you want to book the date. If you are really nervous about losing the date and know that you want to book, you can place a non-refundable deposit at any time to hold the date prior to your consultation.

Do you have minimums?

During peak wedding season - late spring through early fall - Event Cosmetics requires a minimum booking of three bridal party members for on-site application. EC also requires minimum orders for weddings that demand significant travel (>50 miles from Portland). There are no minimums for in studio service or during off peak months for weddings in the greater Portland Metro area.

What if my wedding is out of town?

Event Cosmetics has worked on weddings all over the West Coast - from Skamania to Seattle, from Los Angeles to Bend. However, if you find yourself in a situation where your budget does not allow an artist to travel to your wedding venue, EC recommends makeup lessons so that you or one of your bridesmaids will be able to achieve your desired look wherever you may be.

Does Event Cosmetics require a deposit? If so, how much? When is the balance due?

A non-refundable deposit of 50% of the quoted service fee is required to reserve appropriate staff for your event date. Deposits must be paid by check or cash. The balance is due on the day of your wedding and can be paid by check, cash, or by credit card (MC or Visa).

Does Event Cosmetics do airbrushing? Tattoo coverage?

Event Cosmetics offers both traditional and airbrushing application. If you are interested in airbrushing, be sure to contact us early as demand is typically highest for artists with this expertise.
Event Cosmetics also offers tattoo coverage as well as other corrective cosmetic services. Due to unique challenges of these applications, a separate paid consultation is required to assure that the formulation and technique are perfected before your wedding day.

Does Event Cosmetics have an online portfolio?

Many of the photos on the website are actual on-site pictures of brides on their wedding days. All the pictures represent the makeup artistry of Event Cosmetics. Can I get a group discount?

The pricing of Event Cosmetics' wedding packages is tiered by design to provide clients with significant savings when they require more services. EC also provides discounts for booking multiple events and/or complimentary services (engagement photos). Your artist can provide more information about these discounts during your consultation.
